White Women &

A poem from Die, lie, die critiquing whiteness. The poem mocks, in it's structure, the 'semiotic square' by the semiologist Greimas. Greimas said that we understand something in opposition to something else. That we understand woman in opposition to man, but also to not-woman and not-man. But the structure fails to say anything about context. If we try it with 'Indian', for instance, the structure will not reveal Colombus' blunder. Well, in "White women" the 'semiotic square' runs amok, and it's almost an absurd nursery rhyme. Or, it's like a ritual - trying to break the spell of willful blindness.

In Denmark, many white people don't want to be called white, they think that's racist, while at the same time, actual racism and xenophobia is increasing. SHE'S A SHOW says: INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM FOREVER.

The term "willful blindness" is from Toni Morrison's Playing in the Dark. Whiteness and the Literary Imagination (1992). "The snow is black" is from Städerne inuti Hall by Swedish author Johannes Anyuru's ("snön är svart").
